Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack
on the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a BJP rally in West
Bengal’s Nadia district, accusing the party of promoting corruption,
shielding infiltrators, and pushing the state into what he described as “jungle
raj.”
Addressing the Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha virtually
from Taherpur, PM Modi appealed to voters to give the Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) an opportunity in the upcoming 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections,
promising development-driven governance.
Jungle Raj Must End in Bengal
Referring to recent political developments, the Prime
Minister said the NDA’s victory in Bihar had ended “jungle raj” there and
argued that a similar transformation was needed in West Bengal. He claimed that
lawlessness, corruption, and misgovernance were holding the state back.
Modi stated that while there was no shortage of funds or
ideas for Bengal’s progress, development was being stalled by a system
allegedly focused on commissions rather than public welfare.
Allegations Over Infiltration and Stalled Development
PM Modi accused the TMC of protecting illegal infiltrators
and corrupt officials, alleging that several infrastructure and welfare
projects worth thousands of crores remained blocked due to political
interference. He questioned why opposition to the BJP was translating into
delays that deprived citizens of their rightful benefits.
He also criticised the state government’s opposition to
administrative exercises like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR),
claiming it was being resisted to protect vested interests.
Pitch for ‘Double-Engine’ Government
The Prime Minister asserted that West Bengal required a “double-engine”
government, with the same party in power at both the state and central
levels, to restore the state’s past glory and accelerate growth. He said he
remained committed to Bengal’s development and would return to the state soon.
Rally Held Virtually Due to Weather Conditions
PM Modi was scheduled to visit Taherpur in person but had to
return to Kolkata after his helicopter was unable to land due to dense fog. As
a result, he addressed the rally virtually. He was also slated to inaugurate
and lay foundation stones for National Highway projects worth around ₹3,200
crore.
