Arjun Erigaisi Wins Bronze at World Blitz Chess Championship

Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi delivered a strong performance at the World Blitz Chess Championship in Doha, securing a bronze medal after a hard-fought campaign. The 22-year-old chess star was halted in the semifinals by Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov, losing the match 2.5–0.5.

Erigaisi had entered the knockout stage in impressive form and was widely expected to mount a serious title challenge. Earlier in the tournament, he had even defeated Abdusattorov, raising hopes of another victory. However, the semifinal encounter proved difficult as the Uzbek grandmaster outplayed him to reach the final.

Semifinal Setback

Despite a promising start to the championship, Erigaisi could not find his rhythm in the semifinal. Abdusattorov displayed sharp preparation and calm execution, giving the Indian player little room to recover. The final scoreline of 2.5–0.5 reflected the intensity of the contest.

In the other semifinal, defending champion Magnus Carlsen defeated American Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana 3–1 to book his place in the final against Abdusattorov.

Prime Minister Praises Erigaisi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Arjun Erigaisi on his bronze medal finish at the championship. Taking to social media, the Prime Minister praised the young grandmaster’s dedication, patience and passion for the game.

PM Modi also noted that Erigaisi’s achievements, including his recent bronze at the FIDE Rapid Chess Championship, continue to inspire young chess players across the country.

A Rising Star in Indian Chess

Arjun Erigaisi’s consistent performances on the global stage have established him as one of India’s brightest chess talents. His ability to compete with the world’s best in both rapid and blitz formats reflects his growing maturity and confidence.

With back-to-back podium finishes at major international tournaments, Erigaisi has further strengthened India’s presence in elite-level chess and remains a strong contender for future world titles.
