Medical scans later confirmed a strain on the right side of his ribcage, making him unavailable for the remainder of the ODI series. The injury comes at an unfortunate time, as Pant was looking to re-establish himself in the 50-over format.

With Pant sidelined, the team management turned to Dhruv Jurel, who has been in impressive form for Uttar Pradesh in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The wicketkeeper-batter has delivered consistent performances in domestic cricket, which played a key role in his selection.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that Jurel has already joined the Indian squad ahead of the series opener.
