‘One Day at a Time,’ Says Sindhu
After the match, the 30-year-old revealed her mindset moving forward. Speaking to the BWF, Sindhu smiled as she confirmed she plans to stay on the circuit for a couple more years, focusing on taking things one tournament at a time.
“This was my first tournament of the season, so it was important to stay alert and give everything on court,” she said, adding that she felt comfortable engaging in long rallies.
Strong Comeback After Injury Layoff
Sindhu’s performance comes after a challenging end to last year, when she spent November and December away from competitive badminton due to minor injuries. During her recovery phase in the United States, she underwent rehabilitation while also observing elite-level sports up close, including NBA games.
The off-season work has clearly paid dividends, with Sindhu appearing sharper, quicker, and more confident in her movement across the court.
Experience Over Youth
Miyazaki, just 19, enjoyed a breakout season last year and climbed into the Top 10 with her relentless retrieving and deceptive strokes. However, Sindhu’s power-packed attacking game and improved speed proved too much for the Japanese teenager to handle.
Under the guidance of Indonesian coach Irwansyah, Sindhu has refined her footwork and decision-making, allowing her to dictate rallies with clarity and intent.
Next Challenge: Akane Yamaguchi
Sindhu will next face familiar rival Akane Yamaguchi, the reigning world champion and third seed. With her current form and renewed confidence, the Indian star will back herself to test the Japanese ace in the quarterfinal clash.
Meanwhile, India’s top men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty also began their campaign strongly, registering a comfortable straight-games win over Malaysia’s Yap Roy King and Arif Junaidi.
