DP World India Championships 2026

Introduction to the DP World India Championships

The Delhi Golf Club is all set to host the second installment of the DP World India Championships, which will take place from October 15-18. The tournament boasts a prize purse of $4 million, making it the largest on the continent. The field includes some of the biggest names in golf, including Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, and Luke Donald.

The presence of three of the four major winners of the year in one tournament is a rare occurrence in India, but the $17 million budget allocated by DP World has made it possible. According to DGC captain and PGTI CEO Amandeep Johl, this is the "IPL moment" for golf in India.

The Course and Its Challenges

The Delhi Golf Club course is in pristine condition, despite recent showers making the greens slightly softer. The club has worked with the green superintendent of the DLF Golf and Country Club and a DP World Tour agronomist to prepare the course. The unique challenges of the course, including narrow fairways and dense forestation, will require accuracy and strategy from the golfers.

"The players are happy, the tour is happy. We got good feedback after the practice round. We wanted to make the greens hard and fast. The rains have made it a little softer, which makes things a little easy for the pros," Johl said.

Key Challenges of the Course

The course is known for its tricky final stretch, with the 16th hole being particularly challenging. The 18th hole may look easy but is not, and a draw off the tee is a good shot. On the front nine, the hole to watch for is probably the ninth and third.

Indian Players in the Tournament

Indian players, including Shubhankar Sharma and Anirban Lahiri, will be competing in the tournament. The top 24 players on the PGTI Order of Merit have also got entry, while Gaganjeet Bhullar, Karandeep Kochhar, and Shiv Kapur will be competing on sponsor invites.

"I know Indians haven’t been winning on foreign tours, but most of our boys are in form and the course should be to their liking. With about 30 entries, Indians will form one-fourth of the field. I am happy that a player of Bhullar’s calibre will be here," Johl said.

Notable Attendees at the Tournament

Brazil football legend Ronaldo and Sachin Tendulkar will be among the audience, with Ronaldo making his first visit to India. Other stars are also expected to attend the tournament.

"Without a doubt, this is going to be a huge event. Ronaldo is coming to India for this tournament. He'll be here on Friday. Sachin Tendulkar will be here too along with a number of other stars, particularly on the last days," Johl said.
