Court Observations on Teaser and Trailer
A Bench led by remarked that Kerala is widely known for communal harmony and a strong secular ethos, but the promotional material of the film appears to convey a different narrative.
“The people of Kerala live together in harmony and uphold secular values. However, the teaser and trailer give a misleading impression,” the court noted during the proceedings.
Concerns Over Title and Potential Impact
The court further pointed out that the filmmakers’ claim of presenting a pan-India story does not align with the decision to include “Kerala” in the title. According to the Bench, this could amplify public apprehension and potentially create communal unease within the State.
“The concerns expressed by citizens cannot be brushed aside. Using the name of a State in the title carries responsibility and consequences,” the court observed.
Centre Asked to Respond
Taking the matter seriously, the High Court directed the Union Government to submit its instructions during the post-lunch session. The court also asked for arrangements to screen the film before it on Wednesday, enabling judges to assess the content directly.
Public Reaction and Online Discourse
Meanwhile, the film’s trailer has triggered widespread debate on social media platforms. Several users from Kerala have responded with satire and criticism, questioning the narrative presented and defending the State’s cultural and social diversity.
What Lies Ahead
The outcome of the court’s review and the Centre’s response could influence the film’s release and certification status. The case highlights the growing judicial scrutiny over cinematic content that may affect social harmony.
